WellSouth, shared clinic on move to larger site

The clinic, Te Hau o Te Ora, is a joint venture between WellSouth, Awarua Rūnaka and Hokonui Rūnanga.

With more floor space and the opportunity to collaborate with other providers, the move brings the partners one step closer to their dream of an iwi-led, wraparound health centre for Southland.

WellSouth chief executive Andrew Swanson-Dobbs said the new building was a “clean, tidy, new facility that has the ability to deliver the services we want to deliver”.

It was also more central and accessible than the Clyde St location, he said. “It’s really lovely to support the community.”

WellSouth is renting the building, and contractors are currently repainting and modernising it by, for example, installing air-conditioning.

They are also reconfiguring the layout to comfortably house Te Hau o Te Ora as well as after-hours clinic services.

The primary health organisation was keen to partner at the site with other GPs and allied health services, Swanson-Dobbs said.

“We have some capacity for others if they want to join us.”

The new practice and offices would open in July.
