Projects - Gardens New World Redevelopment

Gardens New World Redevelopment

  • Extensive new extensions & upgrades completed while existing mall operators and supermarket remained operational at all times.
  • Staged completion carefully sequenced & programmed

The main extension on the southwest corner of the existing building included new double height atrium entrance space and trolley bay area, and a new Post Shop/Kiwibank. On the southeast corner a new inwards goods/store area was built, while the existing butchery, bakery and produce preparation areas and food hall were also extensively upgraded. New perimeter display and checkout facilities were provided. On the 1st floor the changes included new office space and staff facilities. An extensive upgrade to the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fire suppression services was also part of the project.

A key requirement of this project was keeping the adjacent supermarket and  mall operators operational at all times during the contract. Coupled with the fragmented nature of the alteration work this meant worked on many fronts simultaneously. The project was planned and delivered for staged completion, a  necessity for the complexity of the project.

Careful planning was needed in terms of sequencing and programming of the work to ensure these staged completion dates were achieved, and close liaison with our client was paramount to ensure that disturbance to the supermarket operators and adjacent mall retailers was kept to an absolute minimum, and that Health & Safety standards were not compromised at any point.

This project's complexity was in planning and sequencing the work around the continuance of use and the staged completions. The co-operative and inclusive relationship between the client, the owner operators, the project consultants and ABL was integral in the successful completion of this project.
