Projects - Mega Mitre 10 Invercargill

Mega Mitre 10 Invercargill

  • The existing Burger King had to be relocated before work could begin
  • 8118m² of retail space located in one of Invercargill’s premier retail locations

In 2000 it became clear to Mitre 10 Invercargill that they need to expand again to service the trade market properly. They purchased the Woolworth's supermarket location, and before starting work, relocated the existing Burger King outlet to a newly built location adjacent to Tay Street / Elles Road corner.

The Drive Thru section of the extension was started at the same time. The existing Supermarket Building was gutted, the West Wall (Precast Concrete) was demolished and a temporary wall erected enabling alterations inside to be conducted.

Once the new Burger King opened, the existing one was demolished and a further 2853m² of new retail space was added giving a total retail area of 8118m² making this one of the largest retail outlets in Southland.

With this building’s unique (MM10 Orange) colour scheme, 12m high façade, café, “open” but inside Garden Centre, and location, it is one of Invercargill’s premier retail locations.

During the construction period, we were sure to maintain public & worker access for Burger King, Harvey Norman, Invercargill City Council’s Bus Service and the close proximity of Elles Road.

Extreme wind blew for 42 consecutive days, such that not a single sheet of roofing iron could be applied during that time. The Mayor, Tim Shadbolt, officially opened the building with a Grand Opening in March 2005, once the wind let up and the building was swiftly completed.
