Projects - Regent Theatre Redevelopment
Regent Theatre Redevelopment
- Upgrade to modern services
- Toilets & Lifts added to improve accessibility
- Heritage details conserved throughout the upgrades
The Regent Theatre in Dunedin is a historic building in The Octagon directly opposite the Municipal Chambers. The venue, seating around 1650 people, opened in 1928 with an elaborately decorated interior.
The upgrade by ABL included work to all areas of the historic building excluding the theatre and stage area.
Toilets were added into the basement area along with a lift servicing all levels, new service areas provided, the foyer upgraded and the existing offices were gutted and re-built including new floors to large areas. Structural strengthening throughout was also upgraded.
Upgrading the services to modern theatre requirements, along with allowing access to these areas was part of the complexity of the project due to the age and intricate detailing of the building.
