"Good progress" at Uni childcare facility site

Contractors work on clearing the area for the university's new childcare facility.

University property services director Barry MacKay said the contractors were making ''good progress'', and demolition of Montgomery Ave properties had been completed.

The facades of period villas in Castle St were being removed for repair and restoration.

These facades would be retained as part of the new development in their original positions opposite Selwyn College.

Contractors had also completed excavation for a new plant building, which would house a sustainable wood-chip boiler providing heating and hot water to the new centre.
