Staff wanted for Bunnings trade centre in Invercargill
A Bunnings Trade Centre will open in Invercargill in early 2022 and 20 workers are needed for the store.
Bunnings New Zealand director Ben Camire said construction was progressing at its Invercargill site and the new trade centre was expected to open by mid-January 2022.
Recruitment was now underway for staff, including trade yard team members, forklift drivers and a range of other customer service roles, Camire said.
In his written response to questions, Camire did not say how recruitment had been going.
Southland Chamber of Commerce chief executive Sheree Carey said Bunnings introduction to Invercargill confirmed the construction industry in Southland was going through a boom period.
“It shows there’s good confidence in our construction market and we welcome new business to Invercargill.”
Her only concern was around the store’s ability to recruit staff given the tight labour market the region was facing.
Carey noted the supply chain issues facing the building industry but believed Bunnings was a big enough chain to work through it.
Camire confirmed its 4000 square metre trade centre in Invecargill would focus on servicing tradies in the construction industry such as builders, plumbers and electricians, plus the likes of farmers and landscapers.
The site, on the corner of Victoria Ave and Bill Richardson Drive, was well positioned for a Bunnings Trade Centre “in the growing area of Invercargill”.
