Projects - CT Scanner Southland Hospital
CT Scanner Southland Hospital
ABL responded to an open tender opportunity listed on Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) and were successful amongst multiple bids.
Contract works involved construction alterations within live hospital environment to accommodate a new larger state of the art Spectral CT scanner.
There were 5 distinct stages to minimise hospital disruption and maintain services throughout:
1. New corridor changing and wait areas
2. Removal of existing X-Ray machine and relocation of existing CT Scanner to operate in temporary space.
3. Construction alterations to existing CT scan area
4. Office alterations
5. Reinstate X-Ray room
Cleanliness, security and noise control were paramount. Works were carefully communicated to schedule particularly noisy works with many early starts to manoeuvre materials and waste from the heart of the hospital.
Construction alterations to the CT Scan area involved structural steel, concrete chases, radiology linings, new HVAC, plumbing, fire and electrical services. With lead lined doors and windows, timber joinery, flooring and finishes.
A new 2.6m wide lead lined sliding door and auto operator weighing in at 500 kg was installed to the corridor access as solution to the new CT Scan orientation and ease of patient bed access.
ABL worked collaboratively with Health NZ and their separate contractors to efficiently schedule international resources required to supply, install and commission the machine and controls equipment.
Works were completed to the agreed time ensuring a smooth transition from the old to new machine and final reinstatement of the X-ray suite.
