Projects - Invercargill Pak'nSave Rebuild while Operational

Invercargill Pak'nSave Rebuild while Operational

Invercargill Pak'nSave is now one of the biggest stores in the South Island following a 3-year major refurbishment and alteration of the existing store. The floor area has been increased by 1600m2 with all new chillers, freezers, offices and departmental areas.

In effect the supermarket has been rebuilt, all whilst remaining operational.

The project consists of a range of building techniques and elements. These include Structural steel, precast concrete, insulated panel, metal windows, metal cladding, fibre cement sheet cladding and concrete. In the new floor construction alone there is slab on grade, rib and infill and comflor.

All new services have been installed throughout, including electrical, data, sprinklers, refrigeration and mechanical.

Working around an operating supermarket meant methodology and staging had to be carefully considered to keep everything functioning and ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers alike. Crane and heavy machinery movements were managed to ensure public safety and minimise disruptions at all times.

What started as a dated 30 year old supermarket is now a vibrant light filled space with a new lease on life. A challenging staged build which was completed 1 month ahead of programme through thorough planning and efficient on and off site management.
