Lancaster Park - Sports and Community Function Facility
Lancaster Park Community Facility is a lightweight structure built on a Rib Raft foundation with a mix of light steel structure, pre nailed timber frames and timber trusses. The roof over Function Wing consists of Formance Structural Insulated Panel spanning between steel beams with DHS rafters tying this roof to the timber roof trusses over the Change Wing. The 2 roof structures come together joining the 2 buildings which creates a large covered outdoor space.
The roof is clad with Diamond ColourCote ZinaCore roofing iron and has Soffits lined with a stain finished Shadowclad Natural Grooved Plywood. This ties in well with the Weathertex Natural Grooved exterior cladding which is also stain finished.
Fibre cement interior linings have been used in the Change Wing creating a robust hard wearing space with Altro Whiterock sheet linings installed in all wet areas – showers, toilets, Refs rooms. Flowfast epoxy flooring has been used in all wet areas throughout the Change Wing and external public toilets.
Plasterboard interior linings have been used in the Function Wing which has a meeting room, public toilets a kitchen, multiple storage spaces and a large open space where tables and chairs can be set up for supporters to watch games through the many windows facing out onto the park.
A mix of carpet tiles, vinyl and vinyl planks have been used throughout Function Wing. Stairs ramps and pavers link the new buildings to existing paths around the park giving clear easy access to the playing fields along with ramps and stairs flowing out onto Stevens street.
As with all construction projects we encountered challenges along the way. Details that didn’t work on site, methodology problems and oversights. However, open communication and respectful relationships between client, consultants, architects and the build team meant that any issues encountered were quickly resolved allowing the project to keep moving forward.
There was a good level of trust between all parties including which meant everyone felt able to make suggestions knowing their input would be considered when deciding on build options and details.
The end result is a credit to all involved and showcases the hard work and dedication to the project from design phase to construction and through to handover.
